Summary Report of the Opinion Poll in Happy Valley

The survey was conducted in two phases:

(a) Phase I

(b)

Local registered voters

7,375 questionnaires were sent out;

there were 378 replies.

Of the respondents, 80% supported the concept of "self-administration by Hong Kong people"; 50% supported the reversion of sovereignty to China in 1997; 49% indicated they would emigrate before 1997 (this figure was as high as 65% for the respondents among the professionals and businessmen).

Phase II

Expatriate registered voters

492 questionaires were sent out; there were 97 replies.

Of the respondents, 96% supported the concept of "self-administration by Hong Kong. people"; 57% supported the reversion of sovereignty to China in 1997; 53% indicated they would leave Hong Kong before 1997 (many gave the reasons of retirement and joining families/ relatives who have not come to Hong Kong).
