Results of survey conducted by Mr Lam Hung-chiu

About 40% of the respondents said that they had no faith in China's promises. 25% would like to see the preservation of Hong Kong existing free systems. Some of the respondents hoped that the Umelco members would deal with the question of Hong Kong's future in consultation with community leaders. Other wishes include:

continued British administration of Hong Kong

British assistance to Hongkong people for emigration early announcement of the Sino-British agreement

Hongkong people should not comment on the Sino-British talks Hongkong people should trust the Chinese and British governments

On how to maintain Hong Kong's prosperity and stability before 1997, the respondents had the following opinions:

Hong Kong should carry out democratic reforms and an independent administration

China must not interfere in Hong Kong's administration

China should ensure that the present systems remain unchanged for 50 years

Hongkong people should stabilize the economy and increase long-term investments

the civil service should be localised.

On how to maintain the territory's prosperity and stability after

1997, the respondents had the following views:
