Regarding the 'basic law', the majority of the students (74.1%)

favoured its drafting by HK people, and that the Beijing Government and

IK people should jointly give final approval to the basic law (62%). As to

the specific provisions for the basic law, most students advocated that

'Hong Kong should have the right to take part in future amendments to the

basic law' (90.7%), the independence of the cxecutive, legislative and

judicial powers came second. The rest included the retention of basic

freedoms and the development, and retention of international connexions.

To the last question in the questionnaire, the views of the students

diversified. Close to 30% (27) thought that intelligentcia/professionals

of the legal, political and economic sectors/elected' representatives (members

of councils and boards) could represent Hong Kong; while 10% of the respondents

opined that Umelco members/District Board members would do.
