1. Mr Davies tackled me about our request for a monthly survey (they have sent us one issue so far).

Hong Kong would much prefer to do this on an ad hoc basis. They are worried that a report on a purely routine basis might after a period tend to lose freshness and punch.. They pointed out that there are likely to be a number of specific events, eg the Secretary of State's planned visit to Hong Kong, which would make good focal points for such surveys at quite frequent intervals.

3. I agreed that we would drop the demand for routine reports and that we would in future give them two weeks' notice of a requirement for a specific report geared to an event.
