HONG KONG: BRIEFING THE AUSTRALIANS

1.

adron Taken

CM15/8

Thank you for copying to us a record of Sir William Harding's conversation with Mr Hugh Dunn. I notice you had underlined Mr Dunn's comment that we had kept the Australian government well informed on Hong Kong and that this was welcome. Our discussions with DFA about Hong Kong continue to be conducted in a fairly narrow circle; but Mr Dunn, although he now appears to have retired from the Australian Public Service, was Australian Ambassador in Peking until some months ago. and is therefore no doubt aware of the extent of our contacts with his government from his previous official experiences.
