My Lea Somuniquer

Many thanks for your letter of 22 November. Elspeth

and I were very glad to hear from you again and would be delighted to see you and Brigitte in Britain next year. You say that you are thinking of a visit at the beginning of the

year. Bearing in mind the notorious British weather, I would suggest not coming too early! We look forward very much to seeing you and would be delighted if you could spend a night

or two with us at our London home, 1 Carlton Gardens. It is

very handy for sightseeing in London!

You asked for some information on Hong Kong for Olivier's

studies next term. I enclose copies of a general briefing note

on Hong Kong, together with a number of my speeches on the

subject over the last year, and a copy of the agreement we

reached with the Chinese Government, accompanied by a short

summary. I hope Olivier finds these useful and I wish him well

in the most interesting task he has been set.
