The Committee are expected to put questions on the subjects in the attached list. There may well be unscripted supplementaries, but, with the possible exception of Cyprus (see below) no new main topics are likely to be introduced. The Middle East and UK/Soviet relations are likely to run for 30-40 minutes each; the European Council and Hong Kong items will be quite short, depending on how far the Secretary of State is prepared to go.
3. Departments are asked to prepare briefs as appropriate (pink Points to Make, white Essential Facts) to reach Parliamentary Unit by 2 pm Monday 12 March.
4. Cyprus. The Committee considered but rejected this item. However, particularly if there are developments in Cyprus before Wednesday, this may not stop interested Members raising it if time permits. I should be grateful if SED would produce a short general brief to cover this contingency.
