SECRETARY OF STATE'S VISIT TO PEKING AND HONG KONG

1.

36

I have received the attached telegram from the Ambassador in Peking asking whether he will be needed to accompany the Secretary of State to Hong Kong after his visit to Peking. I have had a quick word with Sir Percy Cradock, who feels that it will be essential for the Ambassador to come down to Hong Kong with the Secretary of State. Apart from anything else failure to bring him down would be liable to misconstruction by the press. May I tell the Ambassador that the Secretary of State would like him to accompany him to Hong Kong?
