Mr Clift, HKD
SECRETARY OF STATE'S VISIT TO CHINA: MEETING WITH BRITISH- CHINESE PARLIAMENTARY GROUP
1.
I submit points to make, divided between Hong Kong and non Hong Kong issues, for the Secretary of State's meeting with the British-Chinese Parliamentary Group on 15 May. HKD concur.
2. The meeting is being held following a request by the Chairman of the Group, Robert Adley MP, to which the Secretary of State has already agreed, for briefing on the Secretary of State's
visit to China. We do not know which other members of the
Group will be present. I attach a list of MPs who take an
interest in China, including the officers of the Group; no full list of the Group's membership exists.
3. It is likely that the Group will wish to focus on the
Secretary of State's discussions with Chinese leaders on the future of Hong Kong. The Secretary of State will however wish to emphasise that international and other bilateral subjects
were also covered.
