POSSIBLE VISIT TO THE FAR EAST BY THE SECRETARY OF STATE

IN SEPTEMBER

1.

I understand that there is a possibility of a further visit to the Far East by the Secretary of State in the Autumn. If this is the case, the MOD have asked us to give them as much notice as possible since during September they will be engaged in an exercise involving the movement of 30,000 servicemen. They will thus need every aircraft at their disposal and if a VC10 is to be withdrawn from their resources, they will have to make alternative arrangements.
