Mr Colin Moynihan (Lewisham East): To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, if he will make a statement on the current state of negotaitions on the future of Hong Kong.
1 will, with permission, answer the question and
numbers
together.
The last round of talks with the Chinese Government was
on 11/12 April and the next will be on 27/28 April.
In
My right honourable and learned Friend, the Secretary of
isited State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, visited Peking
from 15-18 April and Hong Kong from 18-20 April.
Peking he discussed the future of Hong Kong with the
Chinese Foreign Minister and with other Chinese leaders.
In Hong Kong he made a statement which described the
approach of Her Majesty's Government to the negotiations.
Copies of the statement have been deposited in the Library
of the louse. I hope the House may have an early
opportunity to debate this important subject after my
right honourable and learned Friend's return.
