SECRETARY OF STATE's FAR EASTTERN TOUR: PRESS BRIEFING
1.
I have been prevailed upon by News Department to give an unattributable briefing for the press on the Secretary of State's Far Eastern tour. The time fixed is 3 pm on Thursday, 12 April. I am told that those likely to be present will include journalists from the UK, Hong Kong and [the non-British press, particularly Americans].
2. Although technically unattributable any briefing of this kind is likely to be quoted (and misquoted) fairly widely, particularly in Hong Kong. I shall have to prepare for it carefully.
I should be grateful for suitable notes on both the FED and HKD aspects of the tour by the morning of 11 April.
3.
4. News Dept will be in touch separately about having someone present from both departments to catch balls in the slips.
