Secretary of State's Visit to Hong Kong

The Secretary of State was grateful for your minute of 29 March. His intention is to be able to meet some of the people whom he knows well in Hong Kong informally in a group which will be small enough for him to talk to them properly and yet not so small as to imply extra- special treatment. He wonders therefore whether it will be possible perhaps to have a small group of about half a dozen couples for drinks including Mr Justice Jackson- Lipkin, Mr Brown, Mr Justice Barker. Mr Justice Kempster and Mr Justice Hunter and their wives.

The Secretary of State accepts that it would be awkward if he were to accept an invitation to breakfast from Mr Y K Pao. Nevertheless, he is sure that it will be very difficult for Lady Howe to refuse such an invitation, and he therefore agrees that she should accept.
