1. I thought you ought to know that the Secretary of State is planning to visit Hong Kong in April, as the last stop on a tour including Japan and Korea. We are at present working on the basis that he will be in Hong Kong from 27-29 April. Strictly for your own information, there is a possibility (but no more than that) that he may also visit Peking. If so, this would be at the beginning of the tour.

2. The Governor is of course aware of these plans, but we are not proposing to announce them publicly yet. I should therefore be grateful if you could keep this to yourself for the time being. No doubt the Hong Kong Government will be in touch in due course about administrative arrangements and programme details.
