Thank you for your letter of 3 July enclosing a

letter from Mrs Elsie Elliott of 55 Kung Lok Road, Kwun

Tong, Kowloon, Hong Kong.

There are of course a wide range of views in Hong Kong about the future of the Colony. Members of UMELCO have shown a strong sense of duty in presenting their views, and those of the people they represent.

Hence,

I really cannot agree with your or Mrs Elliott's criticisms

of some of the members of UMELCO, or the Hong Kong

Government, or accept that they would wish to sabotage

or frustrate the talks.
