1972 UNESCO Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage

-?

This is to confirm my telegram number 584 of 6 March 1984. The Executive Council has agreed to Hong Kong's inclusion in the United Kingdom's ratification of the Convention.

I sincerely apologise for the delay in replying to your original letter, however apart from early misdirection of the papers at this end, the issue has been quite contentious, and it has taken us some time to sort out. You will wish to be aware that the Executive Council ordered that no publicity be given to Hong Kong's ratification of the Convention and we will therefore not be issuing any press release here on the subject.

It would be appreciated if you could, in due course, send

theso land me a list of other signatories to the Convention for our records.

jx.

M.

Yours sincerely,

(David Skinner)

for Secretary for Home Affairs
