Dear Mr. Ingham,

On behalf of Mr. Mohammed Luqman who is at present away from Vienna,

I may acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 3 February 1984 concerning

the designation of Hong Kong in UNIDO's documents.

I may inform you that the Secretariat of UNIDO has very recently consulted the office of Legal Affairs at United Nations Headquarters (New York) on this matter and received the reply that it was the consistent practice of the United Nations, in which both United Kingdom and China have acquiesced, to use the term "area of Hong Kong" in the relevant context.

With best regards,

Mr. C.J. Ingham
