Mrs. Lasan called the meeting to order by thanking the participants for their attendance; she recalled that the purpose of resettlement meetings such as this one is to provide a forum for a free exchange of ideas on resettlement trends, prospects and other related matters. She said that the presence of a number of countries in these meetings assures UNHCR, at this very difficult period of finding durable sol- utions for some 13,300 refugees in Hong Kong of their continuing
