UNHCR Resettlement Meetings

I believe you know that the local Chargé de Mission of UNHCR periodically chairs meetings of those consuls and commissioners actively or potentially involved in the resettlement of Vietnamese refugees from Hong Kong. Representatives of Hong Kong Security Branch and Immigration Department, and ICM and INS, also attend.

These meetings do not in practical terms achieve much, since those countries represented are inevitably those who have already done most those who should be enjoined to do something simply fail to attend. Nevertheless it is a useful forum in which to gather the few active participants in the resettlement process, and it does maintain some kind of focus on the resettlement issue among overseas representatives.
