We also discussed in fairly predictable terms a wide variety of other topics prospects for resettlement elsewhere (including the UK), likely outflow from Vietnam in 1983, closed camps, repatriation etc. Wheen's view was that there was a general ' compassion fatigue' with regard to refugees from Vietnam and that 1983 would be a crucial year both for Hong Kong and the problem as a whole.
