VIETNAMESE REFUGEES: WEEKLY STATISTICS

1.

We were surprised to see from the latest refugee statistics (your saving telegram no 263 of 19 July) that the number of refugees in UNHCR centres had risen since the previous week, even though there had been no new arrivals from Vietnam. (Presumably any new arrivals would anyway have been put in closed centres.)

2.

I should be interested to know the reason for this increase: can it be accounted for by recent births in UNHCR centres, or has it been necessary to transfer refugees from closed to open centres in order to reunite them with other members of their families?
