JOINT COMMITTEE FOR REFUGEES FROM VIETNAM

Notes on proposed programme of assistance to Vietnamese refugees in the United Kingdom 1984-87

Introduction

Very serious difficulties still facing Vietnamese refugees in the UK are well known and documented (JCRV Report etc).

why 3

The agencies believe that an integrated three year programme of work is needed to enable the host community and the refugee community to reach a position where they can together deal with needs of individual refugees and families (with one exception described below

The programme is based on five main areas of work: a) community development with the host community, b) community development with the refugee community, c) migra- tion (including secondary resettlement and family reunion), d) continuing individual casework, e) initiatives with MSC, DES and DHSS.

Why 3 years?
