Foreign Minister Ghazali Shafie held a press conference on 9 November and, according to the reports thereafter, said that he had advised the British Government in July not to use BMF documents, procured for the Jalil murder case, for the investigation into the Carrian affair. Ghazali Shafie said that his approach had not been a protest as had been reported in the press but rather "friendly advice" meant to preempt the possibility of the documents being used for the Carrian investigation.
