half, NCDs issued by deposit-taking institutions grew by 16.4%, from $11,483 million to $13,365 million, compared with a growth rate of 28.9% during the second half of 1982.
Secondly, the limited specification of local NCDs issued by
banks and licensed (but not registered) deposit-taking companies as liquid assets, which commenced on 1 April, also
led to a larger proportion of them being held by deposit-taking institutions and a smaller proportion being held outside the monetary sector. At the end of March 1983,
this proportion was slightly less than 50%. By the end June, the proportion had increased to almost 54%(9).
