In the first quarter of 1983, the additional supply
of new buildings, in terms of total usable floor area
completed, was 671 000 square metres. This was 12% more than
in the first quarter and 29% more
and 29% more than in the fourth quarter
of 1982; but it is important to note that quarterly figures
are subject to considerable short term variations. Moreover,
the situation varied between different types of property. For
(3) instance, there were 3 208 residential flats completed by
the private sector in the first quarter of 1983, 35% less than
in the first quarter of 1982; in terms of floor area, it was
20% less.
