US and Japan hold 77% of total known overseas industrial investment in

Hong Kong (UK has 5.9% share).

Recent extension to US

owned Dow Chemicals Hong Kong plant was seen as

an expression of confidence in the territory.

US companies are the largest overseas investors in local manufacturing

industry.

In October this year US investments amounted to 3.5 billion Hong Kong

Dollars.

There are 125 industrial establishments wholly or partly owned by US

interest. Twelve of these were set up in the last two years with a total

investment of 640 million Hong Kong dollars.

Chairman of the Hamburgische Landesbank, commenting on discussions which

took place this summer between German and Hong Kong businessmen, said that

numerous German companies are planning to increase investments in Hong Kong.
