CHILT

1. Mr Luce would be grateful if departments for which he is responsible would at an early stage let this office have a list of Parliamentarians on both sides of the House who are known to be interested in their geographical area/field of responsibility. There are a good many new faces in Parliament, and the list is bound to need updating periodically. Mr Luce would be grateful if Departments could ensure that they keep a close eye on this, and (in the case of geographical departments) maintain a check list of significant parliamentary visitors to each of the countries in their region.

2.

Mr Luce would see these lists as serving a variety of purposes, including:

(i)

a useful quarry for official functions etc;

(ii)

/check list of

(iii)

to help with the handling of our policies in Parliament. A/those interested in eg Hong Kong could be invaluable for this purpose.

to keep abreast of those MPs who visit particular areas regularly, and upon whose experience and influence we may be able to draw in instances where action by a Minister would be inappropriate.
