Mr Adley

Mr Warren-Gash, Private Secretary

Mrs Priest, HKD

1.

Mr Luce said that in their talks with the Chinese

Government on the future of Hong Kong, the British

Government were aware of the need for the realism which

Mr Adley had advocated in his recent press

articles/interviews.

However it was important for the

Enclosures--flag(s)..

British Government to carry the people of Hong Kong with

them. It was also important to avoid giving misleading

or damaging signals to the Chinese Government.
