ction Taken:
We spoke recently about Robert Adley and you kindly sent me 32) a copy of your letter of 3 October to Alan Mason about him.
STRY
Mr Luce was not at all amused to find that Mr Adley had so grossly misrepresented his views on Hong Kong when he spoke to you. He has asked me to let you know that Mr Adley was talking nonsense, and was well off-beam when he said that Mr Luce had asked him to maintain close personal contact with the Chinese Ambassador in London. The more we can discourage Mr Adley from the illusion that he can be a useful intermediary between us and the Chinese Ambassador the better.
You may also like to know that apart from Mr Adley's letters last week to the Prime Minister, the Secretary of State and Mr Luce, there have been no contacts between the FCO and Mr Adley since Mr Luce's discussion with him in July.
