Just a note to thank you again for an interesting meeting the other day. I am sorry we did not see eye to eye over the Hong Kong negotiations, but I am glad at least that we discussed matters in a civilized manner!
I was taken aback by your suggestion made seriously I presume that my comments about the negotiations had almost singlehandedly been responsible for the dramatic fall in the value of the Hong Kong dollar against the US dollar! Never before has anyone so flatteringly told me how powerful a chap I am! To be honest, I simply cannot believe that anything I can say can influence events in Hong Kong, although obviously I shall be seeking to influence events here in Parliament.
