by two journalists from Hong Kong, both

of whom told me that you had stated that you had told me at a recent meeting that you would prefer that I did not make any public pron- ouncements about Hong Kong. I recall our meeting, and was under the impression that the content of our discussions was confidential. Clearly, you do not regard this as being the case, and in view of this I felt no qualms about mentioning to the journalists that you had felt my comments on television in this country had been largely responsible for the recent fall in the Hong Kong dollar.

People must draw their own conclusions as to whether or not your

Judgement in accurate.
