1. The PUS will be in Washington from 21 to 24, June to attend the annual conference of Heads of Post in the United States. In addition meetings have been requested with senior officials in the State Department, including Dam, Eagleburger, Wallis, Burt, Veliotes and Enders as well as with Adelman at the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. Sir A Acland will call on the Pentagon and the NSC. The Embassy are also trying to arrange meetings with one or two senators.

2. We expect the talks to be fairly wide ranging and briefs will be required from Departments as follows:-

(a)

Disarmament ACDD;

(b) Defence matters including NATO subjects and UK/US

relations (ie two-way street, USAF rentaj

(c) Middle East NENAD;

(d) Central America and Belize
