Given his visit to Australia in September/October, Mr Whitney is very concerned that South Pacific Department, who are co-ordinating the briefing and arrangements for his visit, should be aware of this problem and ensure that defensive briefing is prepared to cover it should the Australians bring it up while he is there.

3. Mr Whitney has noted that this telegram has not been copied to SPD and wonders whether it might be possible for the Head of SPD to see this and any other telegrams on the subject so that he will be in the picture. Mr Whitney would be grateful for your views.
