sides an opportunity to raise briefly any
particular concerns;

(c) Working Lunch

The Canadians envisage that discussion over lunch

could cover:-

Economic, trade and energy issues. This would
give us an opportunity to raise the questions of
Canadian protectionism and UK/Canada trade. The

Canadians might also wish to discuss energy
policies in Canada and Britain.
Any other international questions, such as
Central America and Namibia, not covered earlier.
(a) The Leader of the Opposition
17.
This will be the Prime Minister's first meeting with
Mr Brian Mulroney. On present form his Progressive
Conservative Party stands a good chance of winning at the
next general election and he could be the next Prime
Minister of Canada. In addition to establishing contact
with the Prime Minister, we understand that Mr Mulroney
will wish to discuss Party business including the
activities of the International Democratic Union.
Mr Mulroney may also see the Prime Minister's advice on
how a party should prepare itself for government.
