VISIT OF MR WHITNEY TO NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA: BRIEFS

1.

I should be grateful if you would bear in mind the need, should circumstances warrant between now and 7 October, to telegraph Mr Whitney's Private Secretary with reports of signi- ficant current developments over subjects on which your Department recently contributed briefs for Mr Whitney. of particular importance would be Hong Kong, UNGA (and Falklands) and disarmament.

Subjects

Between 26 September and 7 October, Mr Whitney's itinerary is as follows:

26-30 September: Wellington (High Commission)

13 October Saipan (contactable only by open telex to hotel) 4- 5 October Sydney (Consulate-General)

5- 6 October : Canberra (High Commission)

6- 7 October : Melbourne (Consulate-General)

Mr Whitney is scheduled to be talking to governments only while in Wellington and Canberra, of course.

London on 10 or 11 October.
