US EMBASSY BRIEFING
1.
Miss Eleanor Sutter (US Embassy, Political Department) telephoned this afternoon. She had noticed that the talks in Peking were due to conclude today. She had earlier had useful briefings from Mr Morris and wondered if it would be possible to make an appointment, to come in for a further briefing on the current state of play. I replied that I was sure that we should be pleased to offer the US Embassy a briefing but asked that she might delay a couple of days to give us time to digest the information we should be receiving from Peking. Miss Sutter will telephone again on Friday.
2. In Mr Morris's absence I wonder if it would be most appropriate for you to see Miss Sutter. I should of course be happy to take on this task, but am not convinced that my grasp of the problem is yet full enough for this purpose.
