Since this letter was drafted the Bonn General Anzeiger, a normally responsible and moderate paper, has come out with a piece about Hong Kong much on the lines of the Spiegel one. enclose a translation. You will see that it seems to be the work of a DPA correspondent in Hong Kong. Do you think you could get at him in Hong Kong? On a brighter note, Werner von Busch of the Nürnberger Zeitung has written to my Information Officer, whom he knows, enclosing the text of a much more favourable article he has written for his newspaper. This is a much less important publication at 37,000, its circulation is half that of the General Anzeiger and 1/40 of Spiegel's - but one must be grateful for small mercies. I enclose a copy of von Busch's text, which I am afraid we have not had time to translate. He has expressed warm appreciation to us of the help he received both from the Hong Kong Government Office in London and from officials in Hong Kong itself.
