Thank you for your letter of 11 January.

We noticed Holbrooke's Asian Wall Street Journal article at the time. Though not entirely unhelpful, it struck us as pretty superficial from someone with Holbrooke's background. The article does mention a "brief visit" to Hong Kong presumably in October. Holbrooke made no contact with the Governor or anyone else in Government while he was here; nor did we hear anything from the US Consulate General.
