We are currently having diplomatic discussions with the Chinese Government about Hong Kong. These are confidential. In our view, it is the important thing to come to the right solution without rushing matters. As you know, the last round of

talks, held in Peking on 19 and 20 October, was characterised as useful and

constructive. This was encouraging.

IF ASKED WHETHER THE TALKS HAVE BEEN GOING TOO SLOWLY?

As Ministers have repeatedly stated, we are getting on with these discussions

as fast as we can.
