No Outflow of Funds: A partner of Jones Lang Wootton, Mr. James King, denied there was an outflow of funds from HK because of uncertainty over HK's future. He maintained that most investors still had their funds in HK awaiting investment opportunities. The slump in the property market was due to economic recession rather than political un- uncertainity. The market was showing signs of recovery and now was the time to invest.

Stand reiterated: In an editorial on its 35th anniversary, Ta Kung Pao reiterated that HK was part of Chinese territory and was closely related to mainland China. HK would have a bright future so long as people here maintained their confidence.

He was confident that the lease issue could be resolved. China wanted to preserve the conditions of success in HK.
