315 questionaires issued

The poll is addressed to elected and appointed incumbent members of eighteen district boards in Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories. Total DB membership throughout the territory is 315. Therefore 315 questionaires were issued.
Questionaires were issued on 15/12/82 and after a reminder in early January a total of 115 questionaires were returned as at the closing date of 8/1/83, the rate of response being 36.5 per cent.
Of the 115 returned forms 7 are void for errors in the filling- out process. Valid forms mumber only 108. Of this number, 64 are from city DB members and 44 from NT DB members.

Majority are business operators and
merchants
Polled DB members within the age group of 51 to 60 take up 32.4 per cent; the age group of 31 to 40 take up 29.6 per cent; the age group of 41 to 50 take up 25 per cent; above 60 take up 7.4 per cent and the age group of 18 to 30 take up 5.5 per cent.
In terms of education standard, 4.6 per cent of the polled members are of primary standard, 46.2 per cent of secondary standard
and 49 per cent of post-secondary standard or above.
In terms of occupation, 59.2 per cent are businessman or merchante, 17.5 per cent are teachers, 11.1 per cent are workers, 6.4 per cent are professionals, 3.7 per cent are retired and 1.8 per cent are housewives.
Most of the polled members are of good educational background, the main force are within the age group of 31 to 60. Their occupations are varied but business and mercantile activities take up the greatest proportion, almost 60 per cent. All these factors are bound to have influenced in some measure their attitude towards filling out the question- aires.
