UK Press: There was again little of real substance during the week, though the Guardian and Daily Telegraph carried brief reports on inside pages of a temporary halt

in the talks. The Times carried Mr. Zhao Zhiyang 's remarks to the effect that China would not assume sovereignty over HK before 1997. The Spectator weekly dated 11 December had a long article by Murray Sayle entitled "Hanging on in Hong Kong".
