Press Reports on the Future of Hong Kong

187.

You will be interested in the enclosed translation of an extract

from the Wah Kiu Yat Po of 31 December reporting remarks made by a local real-estate developer Ng Tor-tai. Ng is an elderly, "traditional" community leader (Chairman of the Tsim Sha Tsui Kaifong Association) of some standing and his speech comes closer than many to an open advocacy of the retention of British administration.

2.

Although casually noted in a number of newspapers, Wah Kiu (middle-of-the road, neutral) gave the fullest coverage of Ng's

remarks.
