made with a bit of a giggle and, therefore, she was unable to determine how strongly he felt about this matter. Clare Hollingworth said that her impression of the meaning of "roll over" was the Chinese to entering Hong Kong and taking over such matters as the bureaucracy, the banks and so forth.
The Attache also reportedly said that it was a pity that there had been changes in leadership in Britain: that if Mr. Heath had been Prime Minister, Lord Carrington, Foreign- Secretary and MacLehose, Governor, the whole question of the future of Hong Kong would have been settled months ago to the "satisfaction of all".
The Attache informed Clare Hollingworth that he intended to speak to a number of other people along these lines including, in particular, Field Marshal Bramall whom he thought would fully understand the Chinese position and would wish to help in improving the understanding of others in the British Government.
