YOUR TELNO 779: FUTURE OF HONG KONG:
WU XUEQIAN'S VISIT TO THE UN
1. We agree that there would be advantage in trying to arrange a bilateral meeting with Wu Xueqian in New York. Wu is due to speak at the UNGA on 27 September, and the Secretary of State's New York visit is scheduled for 25-30 September. The programme for bilaterals is to be
discussed within the FCO later this month. At this
stage we do not think we should ask Wu to stop over in
London on his way back from Washington (about 15 October):
Sir P Cradock concurs with this view.
