Yao Guang is one of the most senior members of the
Foreign Ministry. He is the only other full member of the
Central Committee in the Ministry apart from the Minister,
Wu Xuegian. He is at present responsible for Western Europe,
having taken over from Zhang Wenjin, and represents the
Chinese side in the discussions on Hong Kong.
