Please refer to Bob Pierce's teleletter of 16 March to Richard Margolis, copied to Warwick Morris, about Deacon Chiu's recent visit to Peking.

Pierce's teleletter mentioned that Ranald MacDonald (the Australian Chairman of the Directors of David Syme, a former Chief Editor of Melbourne's "The Age", and Chiu's partner in ATV Hong Kong) had also been in Peking. The Australian Commission here have given us in confidence (please protect) the text of a speech given by MacDonald to the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. From our point of view the chief interest is the quite lengthy section on the future of Hong Kong (pages 7 - 9). I shall be commenting on this, and on Chiu's visit (I am seeing him later today) by teleletter but am sending you the text now in order to catch the bag.
