In short, the picture I get of Mr Lee is of someone outwardly confident but who, under the surface, suffers a fair number of nagging doubts about the viability in practice of Chinese plans for the future as they appear to exist at present. There are an awful lot of 'ifs' in what he says, and very much a 'fingers crossed' attitude.
