VISIT TO HONG KONG BY MR LUCE
1. Mr Luce was grateful for the advice contained in your minute of 29 June. As you know, Mr Luce discussed possible timings with the Governor this morning. Sir E Youde shared your view that some time in the first half of September looked like providing the best opportunity, provided that the talks produced no unexpected developments.
2.
I should be grateful if you would now take informal soundings to ascertain suitable dates, and how many days Mr Luce would need to spend there. I would also be grateful if you, and copy, addressees in FED and SEAD, would put forward any suggestions they may have for where Mr Luce might go at the same time. Peking is one obvious possibility.
