2. As he left, Mr Davies said to me that 'if there was going to be bad news we should get it quickly'. I noted the point, but did not ask him exactly what he meant. He said that he would expect to be back in London towards the end of the year and I asked him to be in touch with us again, suggesting that if for any reason I was not around he might ask for Mr Donald or
Mr Clift. I recommended that he be in touch with the Financial Secretary in Hong Kong, but had no doubt that he will make his number all round pretty quickly.
